I have at least 1000ml of resin invested so far for the two models that are getting finished and some "test shots that failed" .. maybe a little more - but my first test models I used resin that was close to expiring, and needed to be used up ..

As far as time spent on design -- hard to say .. I didn't start working on this until Ed posted the thread .. I'd say at least 80 hours .. not counting the time to print .. thats one reason I won't offer this as a product
This part confuses me.  Once you have invested all that effort, I would think just the opposite - that this was EXACTLY the reason
you would want to offer it as a product, so you could print some more of them, sell them, and recoup all your time and expenses.  Am I missing something here?

Max -- great question - And I'm flattered that some would want one - It would probably fill a need for PRR modelers,  but I'm hesitant to offer it at this time for a few reasons ..

1) It takes more time to print than I want to invest into it right now .. The amount of stuff I can print on the plate at any one time is limited - so I had to spread it out across a few jobs.  The cleanup and curing of the parts is messy ..

2) The biggest reason is quality - I have a bunch of tweaks I need to make to the files to get to the point where I would feel comfortable charging for the model.  If I can make some progress on simplifying this thing, and getting some better detail accuracy: For example - the coal chutes - I swagged these based on the Tichy diagrams for the 200 ton tower.  The hoist assembly is a mess - I did this in Tinkercad which I haven't mastered enough yet to do the assembly justice .. I'm learning Fusion360 which I think is going to be more powerful and should help fix some of this ..

3) Finally, I just retired for good a few months ago - and I want to get my layout built before it's time to check out ..

My next project is to write an article about how I went about developing this - and hopefully getting it published in one of the magazines.

Have you thought about open sourcing the design?
