You can use Kato U30C / C30-7 mechanisms under the Minitrix U30CG shell.   That's another way to go that Randgust and Russell Straw gave some examples on how to do that.  Just an idea:

John - yes, I read your very nice writeup of how you did it, and am planning to emulate it. 

My original hope was to upgrade the old engines I already have, but by the time I do that  I will end up spending nearly as much $$ as the Kato costs, and it wouldn't run nearly as well as the Kato chassis.
