I got .219" on mine so probably the same with different axles. And these center muffs are shorter to leave room for the wipers to contact the axles.


Interesting.  I suspected that those would be the same wheels, but . . . looking at the pilot wheels, they seem to have much smaller flanges.  They probably use the same stamping die to make the spokes, but the wheel blanks are machined differently.

The only difference in the axles is that the end flush with the wheel face. Inside the are likely identical on both wheelsets.

Did these come from the factory with that dull weathering on the wheels, or did you weather them yourself?

WOW!  That is some serious modeling!  They retrofitted MTL couplers onto the pilot truck, and also modified it to reduce lateral axle play in it.  Plus it is all superbly documented!  Looking at the disassembled model I'm again amazed at Kato's engineering.

I wonder if the lower profile flanges were needed for clearance?
