OK............is that the deck of a flat car we are looking at?
or is the car on a lower track behind?
or did they just chock and chain it in place to act as a bumper?

I went for a run in Wilmington, Delaware this afternoon after work, because I wanted to check out the section of the East Coast Greenway, a trail that will eventually connect Key West to the USA/Canada border in Maine, that had been completed through the area.  This trail has boardwalks and paved trails through the Riverfront in Wilmington and the wetlands south of town.  What piqued my interest was the new access to the Northeast Corridor freight bypass.  The path crosses over the track and parallels it for some distance.  Unfortunately, there's probably not much traffic during the day.

Check this photo out!  I never had access to this shot before.  Again, this is the freight bypass to avoid the Wilmington passenger station on the Northeast Corridor.  Love the abandoned swing bridge!  This picture was taken from a pedestrian bridge over the tracks:

The view from other side of the pedestrian bridge.  If you look close at left, you will see the path paralleling the track for a good half mile or more:

A much better shot of the track and the parallel path:

This last shot is probably not much to look at, but it's to show that the path follows the Christina River down to the Wilmington Riverfront and will practically bring you to the Amtrak station.  A ringing bell caught my attention on my run; it was an Acela.  So, I did at least see one train.  Oh, and the cranes in the picture are left over from the former shipbuilding industry on the river.  I actually ran right underneath one of them.  There's lots of interesting signage along the path with history and photos, and, of course, some good restaurants on the Riverfront.

So, thank you, Delaware, New Castle County, the City of Wilmington, and/or whomever funded this, because it's completely off of the roads and a really nice path with a lot of interesting infrastructure.

Cool!  Thanks for posting that, Chris.  I was able to scroll to view the areas that I didn't have time to wander around today.

Best I could tell at 70ish mph going by on the NEC it was on a flatcar.

It's from July (July 19th 2019).  BNSF freight in a snowshed on Marias Pass.  Gives you a good idea how small the railroad seems in this environment.   Photo taken from the lounge car of the westbound Empire Builder.
