I could tell it was a model, but never would have guessed it was Z scale!

Even having to look for a split second means its great modeling, esp. in Z.

It helps that the couplers aren't visible at this angle. I clicked on the link, and there are other locos where the pilots are filled in and that would have been an even better illusion.

Probably a separate thread, or maybe this one could morph to other realistic photos we have seen.  But it reminds me of a long ago MR or RMC cover with a BW shot of a cab forward sitting at a roundhouse.  Modeler was Paul? I think.  It was the first photo I ever saw (circa pre 1970) that made me look twice.

Unfortunately, for those that don't already know, this railroad being shown, the Bay Coast, went out of existence last May (2018) in real life here on the Delmarva. The top 15 miles of their track are now operated by the Delmarva Central RR. Everything south of Hallwood, VA, to Cape Charles, VA, is more than likely going to be ripped up. The car float is long dead with the barge sold. Operations on the Norfolk, VA, side are now handled by the Buckingham Branch RR.

Fantastic modelling shot though.

I went through Delmarva mid-May and noted twin streaks of rust along US 13 in Virginia where road and rails were closely parallel. I only saw one industry seemingly able to be rail served, that being a propane distributor.  Hardly enough to keep things viable. Further north, in MD and DE, much different story.

Here's another shot of the same layout...remember, this is Z scale!  :o

Funny how large code 55 rail looks in this scale...

The natural sunlight plays a big role in making these excellent models look even more life-like.
