Looking for suggestions on how to best replicate weathered plywood covering windows.  Thanks.

General consensus around here seems to be R/C aircraft grade microplywood.  Both @David K. Smith and @Ed Kapuscinski have similar towers on their layout engineering threads that show their techniques.

Haha, I have that exact tower on the layout.

I think the real solution is to use styrene and apply a finish to it that mimics the appearance.
In fact, now that I think about it, decals might be the way to go.

In my case, I just tried faking it with paint. I might try doing a bit more to before it goes into a magazine though.

Yeah, DKS has done a great job replicating plywood-covered windows. See https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=44969.msg582109#msg582109 . .I recommend reading through the entire thread for more examples (and ignoring the usual OT diversions).  :D

Haha, yes, do what he did, not what I did.

I model the 40s and though plywood did exist long before then, it wasn't commercially used for such things as boarding up windows that I can tell form photos of the time.
But I have looked at plywood placed on structures and wondered how I'd model if it I had to. What I decided was if I was going to do so, I'd take a good photo of real plywood, print it in scale on photo film, then hit that with dullcoat and put it in place. I've done similar things with signs on a diorama I built for someone and people can't figure out how I did it as it's spot-on for the real thing (because, it is the real thing for the photo).
