How do I post pictures or youtube videos?
« on: June 11, 2012, 09:39:48 PM »
Here is a quick run down on how to add pictures or youtube videos to your post.

Pictures?

Click the insert image icon on the top of your post text box. It will insert the image tag like so:

Code: [Select]
[img][/img]
Next, take the URL (address) of the photo that you would like to post. Note: Images over 800px wide will automatically be resized. Post the URL of the photo in between the IMG tags that the insert image icon placed in the text box. It should now look like this.

Code: [Select]
[img]https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-SHxRSrh2Zmw/USqVUtW8gVI/AAAAAAAAvgg/GwGIWMFVepw/s800/20130224_173145.jpg[/img]
When you publish your post you will get your image in your thread like this:

Make sure the URL of the image ends in an appropriate file type.

If for some reason your image does not show, make sure that you used:
1. The full URL for the image.
2. That the image ends in a proper image file extension (.png .jpg. jpeg .gif . tiff etc)
3. That the site you are linking from allows "remote linking" (may produce a red X or no image to viewers here)
4. That the site you are linking from does not require a user to be logged into that site (may produce a red X or no image to viewers here)

YouTube

Adding a YouTube video to your post or thread is similar to adding a photo, except that you use the Insert YouTube icon instead.

Click the Insert YouTube icon, and it will add the youtube tag to your post:
Code: [Select]
[youtube][/youtube]
Use the YouTube video ID, or entire URL from the YouTube video and insert it in between the tags:
Code: [Select]
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYNyM2qUuxE[/youtube]
or

Code: [Select]
[youtube]dYNyM2qUuxE[/youtube]
And you will get this:

You don't. You need to upload the photo to some photo sharing server first.  I'm not sure why this has not been yet mentioned in this thread.  The photos need to be accessible as a URL on the Web. Services like imageshack, Picassa, Flicker, Fotki or Photobucket, or even your own Web server (if you have one).

Is there a specific behavior defined for pictures that is related to the dpi that the JPG file header is marked as?
It seems to me that, for example, a 1000 pixel wide JPG will behave differently in this forum display
if it is marked in its header  as 72 dpi vs, say, 96 dpi.

Is there a way to control how the scrollbar behavior works?  If I post a large photo, it appears in the forum threads  with a horizontal scroll.  Can I prevent that, and instead control this so the entire photo appears, scaled down, instead of having only part of it show with a scroll bar?

Finally, (I know... lots of questions), can we control the behavior of what happens when you click on a scaled-down photo?  It would be nice if hi-res photos could appear scaled down, in their entirety, within the thread, but then pop up in a separate window, in full size, when you click on them.

What I'm getting at is, are there any special tags we can embed within the HTML IMG /IMG, or perhaps
in an HTML "Style" inside the IMG, that can control these things?

Thanks.

Ian, I just realized how hot that example photo you used was.

Also, don't do a Google image search for "Muy caliente". Actually, do do an image search for "muy caliente". But probably not at work.

Hmmm, since the forum now allows attachments directly into threads, this thread is no longer very relevant.

No, it is...it really is!  Attachments are meant for single snaps if you want to share something quickly.  Continue to use your other photo hosting websites for high resolution and multiple image storage.
