UPS Package Car (Delivery Van) Deco Schemes 1965-2002

I know that the UPS "package" logo lasted from 1961 through 2002, and that their ubiquitous P-series round-nose round-roof van design was introduced in 1965.  I know the logo position on the sides of the truck.  What I don't remember is whether or not there was other lettering on the side (such as "United Parcel Service") on the common scheme prior to the globe graphics "Worldwide Delivery 1-800-PICK-UPS" variation scheme.  Does anyone have photos or reference on the van deco prior to the globe variation?  I'm stunned I can't find photos online, given that it is the longest-in-service scheme in the company's history, spanning at least 30 years.

You're absolutely right about the lack of historic pictures. They clearly have somebody on staff whose job is to comb the internet for non-approved images of the old trade dress, and suppress them cease-and-desist style. The thoroughness is astounding. But...

...not surprising given their m.o. for decades has been to scrub and polish their image until it squeaks. Have you ever seen a UPS truck with collision damage? You know it happens, but they squirrel-away hit vehicles immediately that do not emerge into the sunlight until whole. And polished. (I worked down the street from a UPS body shop in the '70s. Amazing even then the queue of trucks pending work... which you could only see when they left the entry door open.)

Hey! I found one! Archive it before it vanishes: https://gangstalkingsurfers.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/ups-truck.jpg

The wordpress drawing and the 1971 pic in the HuffPost article confirmed my recollection.  I also found pics of a diecast vehicle in the proper scheme but the lettering looked large.  You can see the lettering size on the P-700 through the windows of the box van in the 1971 pic, and the lettering size in the wordpress drawing is discernible even with the sharp angle.

Thanks, these are exactly what I needed as confirmation.  I picked up resin two package vans from ChuckThePrinter on eBay.  They are extremely well done, and are pre-painted which I didn't expect.  They have no markings though, so I have to add them.

I looked at his offerings - no UPS vans.  Ah, I found it under completed listings.  Doesn't look bad. I wonder if it is a copy of the oversize NJ International casting or a Hydro-shrunk Norscot diecast H0 UPS van? Looking at the small photo, it seems to have the same slightly odd hood shape of the NJ Int. model.

I also suspect that his city bus is a resin casting of the German Mercedes bus (from Wiking maybe?).

If things work out, we might have an even nicer UPS van available.  :D

Could be shrink-cast. I will have to compare them to the NJI model. I'm going to modify them for lights, so I might etch new sides to make it easier to hollow out the interior as well as correcting some casting anomalies along the lower areas.

The more  I look at it, the more it looks like a copy of the NJI model.  It will be interesting to see the result of your comparison.
