JMRI and LCC Clinics at Springfield Train Show

This weekend 28-29 Jan 2017 is the Amherst Train Show at West Springfield
MA. I will have my help desk in the Stroh building for both days. We will
have the NMRA LCC Demo layout on display. On Saturday at Noon I will give my
JMRI Overview clinic in the Young Building 'quiet' room. On Sunday at Noon I
will give my LCC Overview clinic in the Young Building 'quiet' room.

The main drive of the clinics is to give people the full view of what's
going on in each project. And specifically what's new and to collect ideas
from our users. Many times people only have a small section of the features
and I try to fill in the rest of the story.

The help desk is for one on one discussions and demos. I'll have a number of
different boards plus a programming track to test locos or do simple
programming. If you have issues with JMRI you may find bringing your current
laptop or a memory stick with your current files the simplest way to get
some direct help.

"...or a memory stick..."? Gosh. I haven't seen or used a Sony Memory Stick in nearly 10 years.

Maybe one of us can poke their head into the LCC forum, get a better reading from a live presentation and get back to us on what Ken (etc.) have to say. I'm still a skeptic given the current and foreseeable deployment costs.

I've been very skeptical as well, and the LCC folks are not helping themselves with over technical postings.  I agree a summary is in order.

You really think it is that bad?  He didn't mention "Sony".
Memory stick, thumb drive, USB drive, San Disk, USB stick are all names I've seen used for that device.  I knew right away what he meant and I suspect that most people who have been playing with JMRI are computer savvy enough to understand what "memory stick" is.  Maybe that is what they call those in the circles Ken hangs around in.  I would say that Ken is most likely over 40 years old (a typical model RR) and has seen or used those memory sticks. As snarky as I can be,  I wouldn't fault him for using that term.

I think there were other, open source ways of going about it, especially with the rise in capabilities of Arduino's and Raspberry Pis,

That really could be just about anything since laptops can have USB drives or memory stick. Honestly, working in IT for the last 18 years, I've never heard anyone, let alone a developer, every call a USB drive a memory stick, I've only ever heard thumb drive,

Come hang out with my non-IT ocean science peeps - memory stick is synonymous with thumb drive to most of them.
