Mine came today, upside down in the mail, so the first thing I saw was the Rapido ad.  Agreed, a very nice tribute.  Points to Jeff at Prairie Shadows, too, for donating the use of his gon tooling, also mentioned in the ad.

Rick, a very nice article on the Pennsylvania and Reading Seashore lines. I knew of the railroad, but did not know the history of the railroad, thank you for the article. I'm looking forward to seeing your layout in the magazine. I'm guessing that is your layout being featured in the November/December issue of the magazine?

The next article (# two of three) is listed as being in the coming issue (Nov/Dec) and will be a description of my current Pennsylvania – Reading Seashore Lines layout. The third article to follow will be on all the things you need to do to set up a layout for group operating sessions. That one includes many of the things I learned working on the process with the guys on this forum. I am basically a “C” level modeler trying to push into the “B” range. A lot more work needs to be done on the layout but it is slowly getting there.

I picked up a copy at the LHS.  It's been a while since I've done that.  The Raul Perez article on brick painting and the Zackary King photo spread are why.  I liked the fact that Raul included his online photo album and email addresses; and I reached out to him with some questions and got a quick response.  I urged him to join TRW while I had his attention.

I'm not a big fan of Raul's bricks. To me they are too colorful - more artsy than realistic. But who knows, a prototype for that type of coloring probably exists somewhere.

I've seen bricks like that in old western towns.  I think, just from the looks, that they bought bricks wherever it was cheapest, then, when they had enough pile up, built the building, whether they matched or not.  Of course, the same technique could be used, with a variety of similar colors, for buildings with deliberately varied brick tones.  That seems to be quite common.

I've also seen painted brick buildings, with the old paint flaking off, that looked almost as bad.  It seems that some bricks hold paint better than others, and the paint flakes off, brick by brick, at random.
