KCS apparently rostered close to 60 of these early on, but the numbers have all been reassigned to locomotives, and I'll  be darned if I can find and online photo . . .

It would not say SOU 67 :P

More like SOU 87 (S0U is a post NS merger marking).

The NWHS has lots of proposed drawings ... I'll try to find a more period photo.

Mark

Yeah, I realized this morning that wouldn't make sense.

Here's the page of the NW 4180 drawings from the NWHS, they all seem to show a high brake wheel.

What I do see in that photo you posted is a bracket where the high brake wheel could have been when built.  My guess is that is was moved.  Finding 60's photo's of this car hasn't turned up much that shows anything.

I have a lot more pics than are online but no luck on the angle - definately possible that it was moved.

Is the piping for the 2600 CF a separate piece and, perhaps, available as a part from Athearn?  I can't find a parts diagram for the car online.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Best way to deal with questions about Athearn parts is to just e-mail Athearn.  Quite responsive in my experience.

Yes to all of that.  Having a part number can only help more.  I don't know if the Airslides come with a diagram or not.  Be ready for ~$7 for the parts and a $10 minimum shipping and handling.  That's basically what it was for my requests.

Not necessarily. N&W's HC17 class was built in '65 - with low brakewheel:

The picture shows a car that was built with a high brakewheel and "kitbashed" into a car with a low brakewheel.  Also note missing grabs on the side that were presumably removed at the same time...
