Anyone Make This Gondola in N Scale?
« on: January 30, 2016, 03:36:30 PM »

I was looking at some KCS gondolas from 1972 and earlier when I stumbled on this:

http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=kcs402877&o=kcs

I'd like to model it, but I don't know if anyone makes it (close is good enough) in N Scale.

Any ideas?

Hmm... I have an idea,
I'm gonna eat some
termites...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

Have you not checked Spookshow's website?  Bet you might learn something there...

I will tell you that there are two that are similar but I won't tell you which ones... you'll have to go to Spookshow's site and check for your self.  I suspect that Dee wouldn't want it any other way.

Okay, I checked all of the 50'+ gondolas, and the closest one I see (12 ribs like the KCS gon) is the Atlas (China) Evans 52.5' gondola. All I have to do now is get past the fact that the Atlas model prototype was first built in 1975. But hey, it's close enough for me.

Did I win a prize.

Hmm... yeah, a free
weekend in Pismo beach...

You might consider the MDC(now Athearn) gon:

OOPS! I rechecked the photo of the KCS gon and see it has 13 ribs. I am so stupid. Of course, the Athearn gon on Spookshow's site has the right number of ribs.

Hmm... no prize for
Kiz...

That's really close to the LBF 52 foot gondola. The ribs line up pretty well and the end has boxed corrugations like that.

Then you're careful grace for sure

LBF's 52' gons were out of production before I "downsized" to N- did they offer different variations like they did in HO?

Off the top of my head, I recall they had 4 versions available in HO, e.g. with or without corrugated side panels, NT3 or NT3P ends.

In N, I've seen photos of the 52' gons without corrugated side panels, but I've never seen photos of the ends to know which version(s) were available...
