In my mind and memory (until I'm convinced differently) these black shells were offered by V-Line.  I have no idea who- if anyone- currently owns V-line.

Last I heard the tooling was owned by Deluxe Innovations and sold as part of their "Vintage By Deluxe" line,  50001 .  I have a couple I bought about ten years back.  They are grey.  Not currently in stock at Walthers... :)

Such a beastly looking unit. I dont have the gonads to try that kind of conversion.

That beastie looking unit is about 10 ft longer than a E8/9. They initially ran as A-B-B-A units. Could you imagine the racket they would have made in full flight.
