Turn around, don't drown. Flooded tracks on BNSF

Caught this video somewhere, posted on June 17 by Channel 7 News-Denver.  At about the 12 second mark, you see the DPU end of a BNSF coal train amongst the flood waters.  Video proceeds to show entire length of train...  I can't see how this was safe...

Hmm... aww, we didn't
get to see the exciting
conclusion...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

Special instructions (or other official RR documentation) specify how deep the water can be above the rails for each class or type of locomotives. No problem I see here, other than taking it slow for possible soft track.

Just turn up the traction motor blowers.

As Mike said, as long as the water is below the rails, and the speed is low, the traction motors are fine.  If the water is over the rails, the limit I once heard was two inches, but the advice that followed was "don't try it".  The real problem is if the roadbed is washed out, and as long as the water is running under the rails, it's "probably" safe, as one can see low spots.  Here you can see the water running over the top of the roadbed, so it's "probably" sound.  Even so I wouldn't want to try it without orders from the dispatcher!

Steam can run through water as long as it's below the firebox, but it doesn't do the bearings any good, and there's a real danger of not being able to see a washout.
