For those who would rather read the news, some details are here:

Oddly, London's Daily Mail is making a big deal out of it, with two postings of the video in the last 24 hours.

Holly smokes, that video is unnerving, its almost as if the driver timed it perfect to get themselves killed.  Tragic that passengers were in the car who most likely had zero control over the situation.

Before I could watch the video, I had to watch an Auto Trader ad showing Bo and Luke crashing the General Lee through the side of a barn.  Slightly ironic.

I love TV news reporter ignorance: ", but there was no gate to stop the car." :x

The one that always amuses me are the references to each car in a train as a train. A local report stated that "...four Metrolink trains were involved in the derailment." I'm like: How is that even possible? Oh, four CARS were involved.

I foolishly assumed that we all knew what a train was.

First thing I thought of was the next time I railfan, I won't be as close to the road/tracks as usual.  If car was just a tad slower, the impact could have throw the car right back at the people who were filming

mu26aeh:  Very true.  Years ago the BN recommended staying "20 feet from the nearest rail, plus one foot for every mile per hour of train speed", but at crossings I think extra distance would be wise.  One not only has to watch for derailments, loose cargo, and trailing tiedown straps/wires/chains, but debris from vehicles as well.  If there's a lot of truck traffic it might be wise to find another crossing, because there's no telling WHAT might be in the one that gets hit...
