little red x's
« on: October 13, 2014, 09:35:53 AM »
I know this question has been asked before but sometimes I cant view a picture posted here. All I see is a little red x in the left hand corner.
What do I need to do to view the picture?

Some of the hosting companies used by certain members here are blocked if you have any kind of firewall or security software on your computer and/or router setup. I know I have OpenDNS family filters at home and can't see some people's images, same at work and their filters,

It could also be that the company doing the image hosting was down at the moment you tried to view the images.

Also some folks remove their images after a couple of months and that could also affect whether or not you will see the image... this is especially problematic with older posts (could be a month old with some folks... years old with others).

If there is an image that you might be interested in click on the poster's name and email or private message them asking for them to send you the image.  While this is sometimes a little hassle most will do it providing they still have the image... members here who post shots of various things tend to be very accommodating!!!

Unfortunately it must have something to do with my home computer. I can see the pictures fine on my office computer. Will have to get my IT department (read son) to tell me what's wrong.

Rick I had the same problem years ago when I worked in the Washington Navl Yard.  Could not see a lot of photos that had the red x but when I got home I could see it fine.
