It doesn't change the fact that the original 72's are still the originals from 1972.

And the originals were made by Kadee, not Micro Trains... should be marked as such on the underframe...

Absolutely not.  In addition to obvious differences in tooling details and printing quality between the current MTL models and the original Kadee models from 40 years ago, the artwork is being modified to correct any deco errors of the Original Nine.  And, as always, the reporting marks will be different.

Keep in mind that most of the Original Nine have been reprinted at least once under the MTL banner in the past 30 years.  Some of them have been released as multi-packs (either two, three, five, or six-packs).  Some even have been released under their original Kadee stock numbers.  So this isn't the first time that the schemes have been reissued.

They have come a long way since I picked up the originals at about $2.20 each.
Different numbers shouldn't hurt the collectors.

Might actually help the originals some as the new releases will call attention to the original runs. Some folks might not be aware of what the first cars made were.
