Let's See Your Use of Smoke & Mirrors

...or maybe just your use of mirrors to give depth or create an illusion on your layout.

For my submission, I used of a small mirror in tunnel to give the appearance that the tunnel is short and only curves a little, hiding the fact that the track really makes a sharp 9 3/4" curve for almost 180 degrees back into a hidden stretch inside the mountain. While hard to see in the photo, there's a fake track section that runs to the mirror giving the appearance that the tracks are continuous in that direction. It can also be kind of surprising when you look inside the tunnel to see an eyeball looking back at you from the other side!





Please don't look too closely at my lousy ground covering in this area.

Nice effect. So if there was a light on inside the tunnel, we would see the track curving sharply off to the left of the "fake" portal?

That is correct. This particular line is an industrial branch where I run short equipment that can tolerate the sharp curve.

That would explain the tree being so close to the tracks. I know that on railroads like UP and SP you would never see trees or large shrubbery within several yards of the right-of-way.

Even with the "...lousy ground covering" it is still a realistic scene. The tunnel effect helps.
