It applies to rolling stock too.  I happened on this ex Ann Arbor hopper sitting at Purina in Mechanicsburg today.

Bruce:  One just like that was in Kenova, WV a few days ago.  A very neat patch job by the leasing company, then a quicky spray job by NS.

Thursday morning there was another BNSF unit south of Kenova at one of the Big Sandy coal docks.  A genuine ATSF unit, still in ATSF paint, no patches or other repaints.  ATSF 683.  I would have thought it would at least have BNSF numbers and initials by now.  Apparently it's been there a while, because Trey Holland shot it in April:
