Stake Pockets Needed on Flat Cars?

I'm kitbashing a bunch of 40' flat cars, using Intermountain 8K gal tank car underframes and Evergreen scribed styrene sheet. Is there an easy way to add stake pockets, or can I leave them off? EDIT: The flat cars are going to be used by a logging railroad, and maybe a quarry.

I know it's my railroad and I can do whatever I want, but I would like to be prototypical. Are there any sources for N scale stake pockets?

P.S.  I Googled "flat cars without stake pockets," but it wasn't much help.

Hey Kiz, just how many flat cars are you building anyway.There's  192 stake pockets in that Shapeways item.

Eric Cox's Panamint Models stuff is 1st class.  I've ordered a couple of styles of truck frames from him and they are now installed on my finest kitbashes!  I'm sure his stake pockets are just as good as his truck sideframes.

Foe log cars, no, you do not need stake pockets, if there is some other way of holding the logs on.  Many logging roads used some form of restraint on the log bunks, which could be sliding "cheese blocks", folding stakes, or modern fixed stakes.  So, no pockets needed there.

For the quarry, if they're shipping large blocks, they would probably use timbers nailed to the deck to keep the rocks from sliding.  If it's a private owner car you could probably do without them.  On the other hand, if the car is in regular interchange service, not having pockets would limit the "backhaul" opportunities.  If it's a private owner car you could probably do without them.

I'm making about 2 dozen cars. There aren't that many Shapeways pockets like the kind I'd want to use.

I've made mine from styrene sheet and strip, but channel would be easier.  Mine were made years ago by using HO 1x2 strip glued to 0.01 sheet, with an HO 2x2 WOOD strip as a spacer.  Glue one strip, on edge, to the sheet, making sure it's straight.  Put the basswood strip against it, the second styrene strip against that, and glue.  Use a generous amount of glue, after tacking everything in place first, to make sure there are no unglued gaps.  Cut along the outside of the strips when everything is well set.  Don't worry if the wood won't come out, just cut the pockets to length, then pop the short piece out with the point of the knife.  I usually made six inches or so at a time then cut them to length with a Chopper.  If you want larger pockets just change the material sizes.

I have wanted N scale stake pockets for as long as I can remember. I bought the Shapeways set and threw them in the trash.

I think the "order-Micro-Trains-flatcar-shells" option is the way I'll go. Probably cost a lot less than the 3D printing option.
