Weekend Update 2/3/13

As promised, here's a picture of my in-progress Seaboard Coast Line 10-6 sleeper car, "Richmond."  I still have to install small letterboards near each car end that advertise the car owner, Hamburg, who took over when Pullman went out of the passenger car business.  Oh, and I also have to do the other side.



Not perfect, but I'm proud of the progress so far, considering this car started as this:



If the other side turns out as well as this side, I'll be satisfied.  In my history, this car was saved sometime after it went to Amtrak in 1971 (ex-SCL/nee-ACL) and restored to its former SCL glory in the early 1980s.

I especially like it, because this is unique in N scale.  Walthers offered SCL in its HO scale passenger cars but not N.

I know I'm a little late, but this happened over the weekend and I just now found time to download the photos I snapped.

The Southern Pacific - Ohio Valley Division took delivery of mountain type MT-4 #4361 on saturday, it can be seen as the point helper on the Coast Daylight in the morning, and then with a string of harriman heavyweights later that afternoon.  The decoder will be next weekends work.

Yup, its a series 124, I have been looking for one for years and I've learned if you're after something rare, the time to buy is when you see it!  I'm planning on putting a TCS Z2 in the boiler....this worked well on my FEF3 and externally you can't tell at all, tender still disconnects for storage and power carried through the drawbar pin.  If I have spotty performance I'll probably run a wire and micro plug to the tender to avoid depending on the drawbar pin for power.

I added a 3 foot long piece of plywood to the end of one of the peninsula sections of my layout
as protection against trains diving 43" to the floor.
I made 3 copies of one of my photos and fixed them to the layout side of the end cap.
Now I regret the plywood was not more than 4" wide.
Still like the concept.
