F unit nose door width.

Does anyone know the width of the door on the nose of an F unit?  I need it to verify a decal.

Ahhh crackers, I know the answer to this one... well I could, if I could access my modeling library. Unfortunately, it's somewhere in a box, in storage, probably at the bottom of the tons of possessions.

Actually, I may have access to FP9 drawings. Are they the same width?

IFAIK, yes.

Since you've seen the CGW messages, I'm trying to determine if the 24" emblem that is included on the MS sheet was ever even used on a locomotive.

I don't think it was.  I think it's somehow tied of the erroneous paint writeup that I had linked to.

YES! I had a sneaking suspicion that write-up was not quite right. It lacked a lot of info too, which was frustrating, IMO.

I got a dollar.     I can find one SC switcher that was rebuilt into an SW9 that looks to have a 24" herald, of course that's not what the set is for.  NM, it's a 30".

If he knows anything about the size of the numbers, I'd love to talk to him.

If I can get rid of the 24" emblems and the striping, maybe I can get some 36" heralds and caboose artwork on there.

I measure around 27-28".

Hard to say, but it was a rather complex box-shaped thing that was hinged vertically and swung inward. I'd say it was shaped.

Also found a website where F3s are being restored. One is a Lackawanna, which has a herald that is the exact width of the door. One caption states the herald is 20 x 27"; another says there is a 1/2" border around the herald, so the door is probably 28".
