IIRC, the SP Police Cab had a roof mounted A/C unit in the white scheme.

Wonder why MTL did not add this prototype detail?

The police caboose... does it come with a flashing blue light?

In California it would be a solid forward facing red light... Not quite as visually interesting.

Wow - a black tanker!

Any clue as to how late this scheme would be seen?

These 39’ single dome tank cars are painted black with white logos and lettering. They were built by Pennsylvania Tank Car Co. in May 1925 and runs on Bettendorf trucks.

Earlier than the more famous silver version with the black billboard lettering, and those were fairly early in the century.  Also I think the prototype was an 8k gallon car.  They do look sharp though.

Here's the prototype 8246 (one of the numbers MT did):

http://www.steamfreightcars.com/gallery/tank/tcx8246main.html

Its a 10K gallon car

I stand corrected.  Good to know.  I might pick one up after all.

I think there's a black Texaco car in the background of one of the pix in one of my N&W steam era books. Gotta thumb through them and see if I can correlate it with the model.

The MKT covered hoppers are nice. I saw one of them, heavily weathered, as a spacer car on a Norfolk Southern unit ethanol train from the West through Altoona, PA once.  8)
