I can't answer your question but I think there's a hint in the description - it never talks about the cars in a prototype manner. The same for the Sunoco tankers below, unlike the Baltimore & Ohio Class N-44 50 Ton Offset Hoppers. which do have prototype reference. ll hype, no content. Smells like a foobie to me.

I used to move artwork for museums, and even though we had GOS tracking and a panic button with a direct link to the FBI we used all white trucks with very minimal markings so as not to draw attention. I would think the military would want to do similarly and paint their rail cars with a brown paper bag appearance. I know the WP had a few bases/depots on its line, at least in Nevada, and the cars I have seen pictured being delivered were always nondescript. The MT cars, with their khaki green and 'United States Army' on the side, might as well have a target painted on it. This too screams foobie.

Obviously they were painted drab at some point.

The reporting mark USA was never used on any equipment... so it smells of total foob to me.  That and the six-digit car numbers...

It was used in Europe during WWII. I seen it in pictures in a book I have about WWI USA trains but the cars are European.
