Weathering Gold Medal Models-Chain Link Fence

All,

Hello, this is my first post.  I have purchased a pack of N-Scale Chain link fencing by Gold Medal Models.  For those of you that are not familiar with this, it is a stainless steel product.  I have started installing it on my layout and before I glue it in place, I want to weather it.  The look I am going for is a fence that is 10 years old.  Basically I do not want it to look brand new or like it is falling down.  What are some good ways to weather this fencing?  It is not glued in place so it can be removed for weathering.

Thanks, Mike

I would lightly drybrush it with some brown paint. Or if you have any powdered pastel chalk that would work better for a more subtle effect.

I did my sample fience on my site at http://rbdhd.t35.com/chainlinkfence1/ with artist pastels.  I applied the pastels with a dry brush and didn't apply any dulldote as it's a sample and I'm sure on a layout it wouldn't need dulldote.
Love to see pictures when your done.

Try hitting it with some dullcote and seeing what you think of it before doing anything else.

I'm with Ed.  Chain link fence is galvanized and rarely rusts except in extreme cases.  Ten year old fencing still looks pretty good.  The galvanizing is semi-bright silver when new and weathers to a dull gray.  I would hit it with Dullcote and give it a light black wash.  Use a water-based wash rather than alcohol, or the Dullcote will turn white.
