details for a wrecked engine

I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas where I could find the details needed for the inside of modern diesel engines and such the diesel or electric engines? I was thinking of modeling a wrecked engine and wanted to have the inner parts showing. I was thinking I may be able to find a diesel engine from a model semi truck but don’t know if it will be convincing scale. Nor do I want to buy a model truck just for the small part.

Walthers makes a prime mover in HO scale.  Here's one on the 'Bay for five bucks...

I'm sure you know where McDonald Steel is on the other side of Girard from Youngstown?  Larry's Truck and Electric (LTEX) uses the ground there to store old parts locomotives and uses the Youngstown And Northern engine house to work on them:

Yeah, but seeing that Dave models HO, that doesn't do him much good...

You know, it might been kinda helpful if he mentioned that in his post. Alas, it seems too many HO'ers just assume the world is 1:87 scale...and the N scale one was made by Alloy Forms, IIRC.

Sorry I didn't mention that before.  I don't try to assume everyone is doing HO scale and more then other places I visit.  Forgive me and I'll be sure to put details in my request in the future.

Have you been through McDonald before?  The main road pretty much dead ends at the mill, keep going straight over the bridge (stop and take pics from the bridge)

That is the old Youngstown & Northern engine house on the left.

You can pull into the place and ask to look around (why I would take a few pics first) Plus you can loop around McDonald steel and have a look at the other side.

Note that this would be most appropriate for something like a GP9 or F9, not any modern engines.
