Another Bachmann On30 boxcar

I did another one of these bachmann boxcars.  My first attempt was here:  http://therailwire.net/smf/index.php?topic=13722.0

Pretty much the same technique, but I used 60 grit sandpaper in addition the the Micromark wire brush.  I also applied the decals before the paint, to get them to look peeled.

I don't like it as much as the other one. I think it looks TOO mottled.

I have to agree .. it kind of looks like you let some comet or some other film dry on it .. a wooden car I think would weather more evenly ..

I really like the heavy-duty weathering on this one, especially the greens on the door (almost expect to see some of the boards warped). What I do find a bit disconcerting is the brilliant crispness and clean color purity of the parts of the lettering that show through the overpainting. I would have expected both the black and white to be heavily faded, and perhaps even see some chalky streaks below. The door track also looks wrong... odd distribution of different qualities of paint, with no hints of wear marks or rust. And... the ladders look new and kind of plastic.

Thanks, and good ideas on the decals.  I didn't even notice the door track :-[  I'll have a fix posted later this week. ;D
