ME On30 code 70: nice

I received a bundle of ME On30 code 70 flex this week.  It's nice, really nice.

Each piece is 36" and $7, so more expensive than smaller scales (especially when adjusted for size).  The ties are randomly spaced and far apart and there are no tie plate detail.  Some of the ties had flash and would need to be cleaned up a little bit.

The Bachmann flanges all work fine with it.

Wow Tom- the On30 flu has hit you pretty hard!  I've looked at the ME and Peco On30 track.  I think On30 track is particularly well suited for handlaying- the ties are spaced unevenly and farther apart, and don't have to be straight.  Rough looking track work adds to the "backwoods" look of a lot of the Bachmann stuff.

I decided to take up On30 for a few reasons.  One, it's kid-friendly.  Maybe not three-week-old friendly, but big trains and steam are what kids love.  Two, On30 can be pretty small too.  The Davenport switcher is the same length as a N scale SW.  Three, the weathering opportunities are immense.  Four, the Bachmann stuff is really nice and cheap.

Sparky-yeah, handlaying is something I want to do for sure.  Track is much more forgiving in the large scales.

Now, if Bachmann made the Forney, the Consolidation, and the Climax in HOn30 instead of On30, you would have my interest. HO models on N gauge track and all the fine craftsman structures available in HO would be a mighty tempting combination...
