Rescuing another Postage Stamp from the junque box

I hate to see rolling stock languishing in a box, no longer appropriate for revenue service.

Last night I pulled this old Aurora gondola out of the junque box, and got it ready to earn it's keep...


I rescued this from an ancient Postage Stamp car, the green WM version. I added a better brake wheel, body mounted couplers, Roundhouse trucks with Lo-Pro wheels, and I lowered the bolsters to reduce the ride height. I then added a floor using v-groove Evergreen stock, and added a few scraps of blocking. The lettering is from a custom run of decals I had run by Engineshop (www.helveticarr.com) and the reporting marks are from a Micro Scale set.  I weathered it lightly with a few washes of acrylic browns and greys.

That looks like the Made in Mexico knock off that wasn't quite as
good as the Made in Germany Trix product.

Probably, Lee mentions adding a "better brakewheel"... The ones I have had no brakewheel at all.

Mine was the German one.  The plastic is more rigid.  I've seen the Mexican ones, more like Tupperware...

But yes, that's the model I started with.  And yes, Tom, I lowered it because it just felt "right".  Plus the extended height of the sides really made the ride height look funky.
