Sorry about that. There was a missing bracket in the post.

The forum software was being difficult when I posted it this morning and didn't realize it until just now.

Sorry about that!!!

Oh, I wanted to mention that I voted for Sean's car, because he's the ONLY one who got the patches right.

Notice on the prototype that the reporting mark patch doesn't extend under the "R" in CR, only the C.

He also nailed the rust collections as well.

Here's my analysis.

Butch: His patches near the roof weren't clean, as they are in the picture. He didn't even have a patch under the "C". Other than that, I see no flaws.

That NScaleSteve Guy :P: He captured the overall look well. The rust was a bit heavy, but otherwise it looks good.

BSOplinger: The rust was too heavy, the patches were crooked, and he missed a few rust spots and patches. But, I like his repatched data.

Mitch: This is where it got tough. I notice he added a little more rust, but that's all I can find wrong.

Jeff(MrKLUKE): I see nothing wrong with his car. Nil, zip, nada.

Gonzo: I'm judging his strictly on weathering, due to lack of decals. That said, I notice he missed a rust area or two.

I voted (BLANK) on this one. He captured the look better than anyone. IMHO, this is his best car yet.

Anyone know where RED ROCK is, and why he didn't participate?

Hehe. Generally, I'm not a huge FSU fan. But, anyone that beats Duke(Unless it's Florida or Georgia) is a friend of mine.

That's good to know, since it's a weathering challenge....

As opposed to decaling, detailing, etc.

I think we need clarification of what the challenge is really about...weathering or weathering and detailing.

Yep. Too bad Ed had to go and open up all possibilities for this month...who's idea was it to put him in charge, anyway?  :P

I'd have to start out by saying this is one of the best Challenges as far as decent entries go, across the board. I won't let my anti-East Coast prejudice for all things Pennsy and Conrail cloud my analysis too much. But I will have to nitpick in order to separate these fine entries.

Butchmaster1000

I liked the rust. I liked the trucks - but not the wheel faces. The chute area looks realistic. Weak points: The word Pennsylvania & herald were too obscured. The numerals were not in a straight line. And the CR was not sitting on a patch (even a partial one).

EurotrashSteve

The decal work is great. Yes, that matters. You guys are trying to replicate a real car here. Rust is subtle. Like Butch, Steve obscured the original Pennsylvania and herald too much. That's an important part of this car. Weak point: I didn't like the cat-scratchy charcoal-looking weathering. It is not on the prototype. Steve also did the wrong side of the car.

Soppleganger

I dunno. Good attention to decaling. But overall - the car just seems a bit too "plastic" still. Too fresh. He also missed the patch under the CR. Wheels and trucks appear untouched. Chutes could use some relief work.

Pantomime Donkey

I'm liking this as a first attempt. Shows promise. Decal work looks straight. Wheels look good. Weak points: The rust is too smooth, and too heavy. Ease off a little next time... and stipple it on rather than smoothing it on. The ACI area looks cartoony to me. The chutes have no relief shading.

Count Klukula

Jeff's really getting the hang of replicating the nuances of a subject. I mean, he went all out with the data and the rust patch locations. The rust is "dry" enough. The trucks and wheels seem believable. Chutes look good. Weak points: The reporting marks look chunky. That's really nitpicking - but it's his Achille's Heel. Other than that... the model still has that sheen of cleanliness beneath the rust. The surface doesn't look aged enough. (i.e. if one took away the rust... the model would be essentially clean still.

ElmoCRFan

I like this one. Well... most of it. I like the way he raised the plate for the ACI. For an N Scale piece of work - the rust is extremely nice. Not creamy. The Pennsylvania is almost too obliterated though. The trucks are average - but the shiny Atlas wheels are killing me here. Weak points: the painted patches would've been better done as decals. In N Scale, the painted shapes are too thick. Additionally - the film behind the reporting marks is too distracting. The wash on the underside is a good touch - but it kind of puddled up (like on the crossmember).

No one rated a 5-brush out of a possible 5 brushes this time.

However, I think everyone was pretty much on top of their respective games!

Butch, Jeff, and Sean have done cars that just look more realistic than the others - that's all.

It's a tough one. I'm feeling guilty picking Jeff here... but he edged out Butch by a hair. Or is that a nose hair.  ;D

 I had a job picking a winner, thought cars 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 looked almost real! :P
