New Atlas H15-44 With DCC Sound
« on: February 27, 2025, 09:34:18 AM »

I just recently purchased an Atlas H15-44 with DCC Sound (Rock Island #400). And unlike previous H15-44's, this one did not come with the plastic fuel tank shrouds sold with previous H15-44's. However, looking at the drawings on Atlas's website, it does appear that they should've been included. Anybody else have this problem with theirs or did I just get "lucky"?

FYI, I also sent a query to Atlas.

Evidently the marketing drawings are wrong. Rock Island H15-44 #400 did not have the shrouds during the era represented by that particular paint scheme (per Atlas).

Credit where credit is due, this one is also performing quite admirably on the "speed step 1" test - 4+ hours without a stall so far. Of course speed step 1 on this loco is nowhere near as slow as it is on the NW2.

Mark--Do you think that the bodyshells from the original run (Milwaukee Road) will fit on the new DCC/Sound chassis?

Thanks,
Roger
Best regards,

Roger

I don't see why they wouldn't.

Based on Mark's suggestion I bought the new sound equipped unit and my first generation Milwauke Road shell was a perfect fit.  Now my old DCC equipped chassis sports a new PRR shell and is destined for the next swap meet.
Best regards,

Roger

I went to swap my old AC&Y H15-44 onto a new sound unit. Swap went well but i noticed one of the number board/ marker light pieces is missing on my old unit. I've looked at the atlas page and ebay, no luck finding one. any suggestions?
Your layouts nice, but it needs more Conrail !

Call Atlas parts department.  They may have what you're looking for, not listed on their parts store.

I might be able to help. I have a pair of shells that I won’t be using - I’m not sure exactly which part you need but if we can clarify what it is you need I can pop it in the mail…

I lost one also on my older unit (since swapped off).  I ordered both Atlas 520203 and 520203-1 and replaced the lost part.  I have the surplus parts to send you free if you will PM me with your address.  The parts diagram names it as "cab glazing set".
