Painting PLA material

Good afternoon all,

A few friends at work have given me a some things they have printed with PLA.
How (with what kind of paint) do I paint these things to avoid a melt down?
One is a Z scale British looking steam powered freight train.
The other looks like a four inch diameter bear trap.

Thank you in advance,
Bobster

Hi   I use TruColor paints, some automotive/guitar lacquers (nitrocellulose types), and (rarely) acrylics.  I found that by using light coats, waiting a bit, re-coating, repeat, repeat to build up, there is no problem with melting or softening, or loss of detail.  Acrylics are "thicker"- cannot water down too much, so there can be loss of fine details.

GGN,

Thank you for the reply.  I had almost given up on getting a reply.

Thank you again,
