Also, the 30 and 35 share a mechanism. The 30 and 40 do NOT. That's a big chunk of tooling cost right there.

See, and that’s why I can’t figure out why in the world they’re doing a second run of HO GP30’s and the GP40’s without having announced the GP35, because you’d think that same principle would follow there. It’s just so strange to me, but that’s why I predict they would do it that way.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was because lots of people think the GP35 is kinda boring.

Well those people would be wrong  :(

I mean, setting aside just the basic 35, the amount of rebuilds make it a fascinating series of locomotive (and of course one of my favorites).

Yeah, but 35s were a mainstay of a lot of popular roads - PRR, ATSF & SP, for instance - and there were ~10% more of 'em than GP30s.

Living in SoCal in the 1960s, between UP, SP and ATSF, you couldn't get away from 'em.

GP35 is an essential model for many roads (N&W "proper" bought 60 of them).

Plus, it was the model that pretty much defined the EMD "look" on their hood diesels for several decades (dare I say "iconic"?).

I will welcome a "state of the art" GP35 if and when they arrive.  :D

I for one think the GP35 is iconic. It is the defining 2nd generation EMD locomotive. Also as a PRR modeler I need a few. GP35 were still heavily used in mainline train in PC, even post GP38/-2/40 delivery.

I ordered a good number of the 30s and could definitely use some 35s. The Southern didn’t have as many 35s as 30s or 38s but they had some and I would definitely get 2-3 to have just that little extra variation in the consists.

I'm not saying it's not a common engine.

I'm just saying it doesn't have the same fame as the GP30 or quite the same level of ubiquity and longevity as the 38s and 40s.

....and I highly regret that my 10 year era doesn't allow any GP30's and their ubiquitous Booster units on my layout...  :(

Cheerio anyway!

Received the e-mail this morning: "Your Preorder Is In Stock and Will Ship Soon". Literally "the end of January", as promised.

My “loose era “ would allow these models but they have the wrong lettering color for my tighter focus timeframe. I’ve been pining for a HH GP30 for a long time and it’s hard to resist these but I think I need to hold out for the correct paint scheme whenever it comes along. As a positive I can get away with using it for both timeframes.

Just ordered 3 PRR units.  Ouch.  #2222 already sold out, <24 left of each of the other numbers.  I was only planning on buying 1 now, but when I saw there were <24 left of the remaining numbers, I bit the bullet and bought what I planned eventually.  Now I need to sell my old Atlas and Kato PRR GP30’s and ER PRR Sharks.

Scale Trains announced CGW GP30s in HO.  They initially were going to run six numbers, but have since decided to do all eight.  I'm going to start saving now just in case these make it to N.

St is doing the gp35 in HO . I could see them do the DD35 booster in both scales to go with the GP.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.
