I have a need myself for 2-3 Industrial Overhead Cranes so DO expect those to be rerun early 2025. Have you guys seen the prices being paid for the Walthers plastic crane? I have been watching them for years going for over $125 for a part that used to MSRP for less than $20. THAT requires investigation for a new product. May have to sub-contract a 3D printer to get the winches. I’m hesitant cuz any self respecting scratchbuilder can make those. Thoughts?

SP Late signal bridge. This has come up before in PMs and while I can etch parts, I do not have a laser cutter. Even the small desktop models can’t be justified for the few parts so These will need subcontractors as well. I would need 20-25 hard reservations for this item. Same for the SP Early.

Wood chip loader is a huge metal hog meaning it could be $200 plus and also needs laser cutting.

I no longer have a personal need, but I have a design that I was at 80% complete and would love to see that come to light. Would anyone have a need for a Skewed Thru Pratt Bridge? I was creating the bridge design after seeing it on the Southern Rat Hole line. It could be a cool structure. Main reason I never produced it was I saw people kitbashing CV bridges.

Always on the lookout for ideas that can be viable.

Always a danger in that we all think what we need extends to everyone else but I think the modern tank car platforms would be a winner...

Agreed on the Walthers overhead cranes, they go for a ton on eBay, when they even pop up.

I think overhead cranes are such a common item from the steam era all the way the present and can pop up all over the place and yet they are not readily available in N.

Thank you Bob.  I too have a burning need for the late-style SP signal bridge (the one that used to be at MP377).  Happy to buy more than one and/or to split a run with Tim and James. I'm also happy to take care of the wood parts myself.

Bob I would be interested depending on how the final design looks. I am planning on building a Himrod Junction focused HCD layout and the NYC bridge over the PRR is the signature scene:

Just finished converting the Industrial Overhead Crane Support to the smaller sheets. Waiting on actual pricing, but a crane support kit should be $80. Need a commitment of 10 to proceed.

With two of the Walthers Heavy Duty Crane kits on hand, I'd be in for two.

Bob,

A long time ago, (I think) you announced a Seaboard Coast Line M5 caboose.
Is that still possible?

Hiya Ron,

New rollingstock poses 1 major hurdle, design time of +1 month and I have never got a design 100% right on the first time. REAL CLOSE, but I have always had to go to a rev 2 artwork to sell. Trying to recoup that dual setup and run charges is difficult unless the car is a must have by the modeling world. Probably would need +25 cars to make it viable. Obviously, if someone wants to fund the work and then control all rights, that can be done.

Railwire is one of the best sights for this discussion because people here are serious and level headed. You get actual feedback that is useful. Just need to find a few good candidate cars and I would do them.

EDIT:  Example of two cars that I think a lot of people would want (I will be making them for my layout anyway). Laser cut sides, etched brass overlays and some 3D super details.

FWIW, I'm about 75% done designing a 3D printed M5.  The holdup has been the end ladders and railings, which need to be etched.  Maybe a combined effort would cut down on cost and Bob's workload and get the project done.

I have plenty of space on a few sheets that are just blank. The key would be to be expeditious as the sheets are going to the etcher very soon.

There was someone here working on a X23/R7 kit a year or two ago, but I haven't heard anything recently about it.
