Atlas coupler trip pins no longer magnetic

   I use MTL magnetic Z scale 905 couplers on my N MTL standard passenger coaches and on my N Kato SD70M diesels to reduce space between cars and locomotives.  Yes, they do magnetically uncouple.  An added bonus it that I did not have to file and use screws and spacers to level the coupler on my recent Kato SD70 diesels.

I put the Z scale version on all my steamers that had just a dummy knuckle coupler on the front. I always wanted the ability to double head steamers and these work great and, as randgust said, the size difference doesn't matter.

I like using Z scalers for stuff but really wish they would cram them inside of a 1015 style box instead of that wonky taper box

I'm going to be so brazen as to suggest that the portion of the N scale market that honestly, actually operates using magnetic uncoupling is < 1%.

we did a survey and I wanna say 30% still used them as intended...don't bet a beer on that...the survey was a long time ago and I didn't head that one up.  We still sell magnets every month...

I remember what hooked me on N Scale was the Magne-Matic display box with the moving cars under plexi glass watching the coupler couple and uncouple over and over at a local brick and mortar.

Bought my first MT boxcar that day!

I had the magnets on my first 4x8 and used them religiously, no five finger movements.

I bought a magnet, years ago (1970s!) and tried it on my small test track.  It ended up on the fridge.  I still use a homemade pick today.

Yes! The MTL #80 Dealer Displays.   I recently refurbished two. Cleaver simple engineering, and it speaks to the quality of your product that it can be trusted to perform continuously in that setting!
