unit train suggestions

looking for some good unit train ideas for multi packs.    Any ideas?

Absolutely…. Copper Concentrate unit trains. Very heavy load, so rather different hopper cars are used. If regular hoppers, car can only be loaded with a small amount. Here’s one example.

1/3 50' 'normal' boxcars for pulp rolls - CR, NS 'railbox' style boxcars.

1/3 chip hoppers - HPAX - I don't think you made this car but somebody did, 100-ton 'box' hoppers that were end-dumped or unloaded with an excavator on site.

I've got photos of this equipment.   Ran with CR and NS GP38's between 1985 and September 2000 across Pennsylvania (Lock Haven - Erie)

As far as I know the last, and only, 'unit paper train' in the United States, and the last true 'log train' on a common-carrier.

*I model BN/MKT in 1989 in N, so any of the above could come as weathered, but late-90's+ garish graffiti wouldn't work...minimal basic line-art graffiti would be ok.  I'm not trying to demand anything, mind you.... just saying that's what I would buy.  I would buy as many as an 8-pack of each of the above (plain or 80s/early 90s weathered) and can provide enough numbers to you for each if you are interested.   The first one on the list is far and away the most common....maybe an 8-pack of those and an 8-pack of the other two split 4 and 4.

-BN/BNSF 4 or 5 pack of Weathered Husky Stack Cars (identical to your N release is perfect for me)
-Trailer Train/TTX 4 or 5 pack of Weathered/Wood deck Bulkhead flats.   Similar to the previous "TTX Red Logo" set you did, but using the older TTX logo or even a straggler Trailer Train or two.
-BNSF CWR 60ft Flats (would require the CWR Racks to be printed in Z)   I literally have 24 on order for your current run of the BNSF flats just for this purpose, using home-brew racks. (not yet created)    Do y'all do trade-ins?

Not exactly a unit train, but N&W built over 22,000 hoppers to this design - they could be seen in a surprisingly large variety of places all over the country.



MTL has done two road numbers in this scheme (unfortunately, MTL's lettering had several serious errors).

A "runner" set with correct "hamburger" herald and other corrections would get at least one sale.

GATX 100ton coke hoppers. Black with red rotary ends and typical GATX logo. GACX reporting marks in the 13000 series and GABX reporting marks in the 100-500 series. BNSF runs full unit trains across Montana, Idaho and Washington. Have seen unit trains in Oklahoma and the North East too. I will buy every car you make in this scheme.

Depending on your funds, the easiest and lowest cost I would think would be the Atlas 90 ton coal hoppers.  Depending on what road you want to do, they are plentiful out there.

PRR/PC/Conrail G39 Ore Jennies. Long life, a couple variety of railroads, and they traveled. Cars were also used later on for a lot of big infrastructure projects to move dirt around.
