Had the day off today so I drove up to Georgetown, CO and had my narrowgaugegasm...

Then, I took the electric Constang over to Rocky Mountain Train Supply (N Scale Supply) before heading back to Colorado Springs. If you're ever in the Denver area, I highly, highly recommend a stop!

I always enjoy seeing my own stuff on the magazine shelf at a hobby store...childhood dream? Check.

Stocked up on some more N scale awesomeness for the PRR (T-TRAK) Juniata Division 2.0:

I am gradually settling into retirement and have been getting a good modelling groove going, although it will come to a stop next week as I head out for a three week trip to the UK.  Here is what I got done this week.

I have been hosting a modelling night for our 7th Division PNR-NMRA on the first Friday of each month and tonight was spent filing frog and point rails for my Civil Certificate scratchbuilt turnout projects:

I am building a turnout and a crossover.  The frog and point rails were filed with a Fast Tracks tool:

During the week I managed to get the parts for my two cabooses fitting together well enough that I can now proceed with the build:

I got the roof vents and smoke jacks installed on the roofs:

And my four M-420s have emerged from the paint shop; items left to tackle include installing handrails, weathering, chassis and digital work:

These are being completed as delivered in 1973 and 1975 with appropriate steps, paint scheme, etc.:

See you in three weeks!

Finished the bridge deck at the junction.

Of course, after assembly, I found the can of "sand dollar" I used on the original bridge.  I used Camo Khaki on the new section.  Bothe are good concrete colors, but as you can see, not the same when juxtaposed.

Once I get the fascia sorted, I'll trim the bridge to follow it.

I also have to build a pier that makes sense crossing the river at the angle it does.  I'm thinking two or three columns with a lintel.

Then on to lighting and detailing.  I think I'll drop a light under the deck to illuminate the wye track below.

Generally the scene is coming together the way I envisioned it.

Now, enough procrastination.  Time to sift through the mountain of accumulated stuff to see what's getting sacrificed on the Altar of N Scale Weekend...a mere week away!

Getting close to finishing the logging care or at least as far as I'm going to go with it.  Here are a few pictures ....

As long as I could find a printer that prints this good then the build volume becomes the desired feature for me. This printer is doing the job for most projects for me with the 163.9 x 102.4 x 180 mm (6.45” L x 4” W x 7” H) build volume. At some point I might consider a resin printer with a larger build volume but don't need it to have anymore print resolution. I still use the Ender3 Pro for projects and it has a much larger build volume.

If you are new to printing I try and print most of my filament (Ender 3) prints flat on the table so the size that can be printed is determined more by the length of the X & Y planes on the printer. I hardly ever print a resin print on the build plate. They are usually suspended on supports and print better that way.

Doing that with the current Photon M3 printer I can orient the print to take advantage of the 7” height and the 6.45” length and print items that are almost as large as I print with the filament printer. Both printers have their pro's and con's. Don't think you can't print N scale items with a filament printer as I have tons of N scale items ( HERE ) & ( HERE ) I've printer for the railroad with the filament printer, more than I've printed with the resin printer and those print files are up for anyone to use (non-commercial).

The detail shown above is down to around .007”/ .178 mm or about 1 inch in N scale. I can't print down to .014”/.356 mm with the Ender 3 Pro filament printer, about 2 scale inches. In most cases at normal viewing distances one can not see much under 2 scale inches.

    Received the ….

… trucks. I'm going to change a lot of the detail on the car and also design two other types of stakes to hold the logs on the car.

Didn’t get a lot done this week other than finally mounting a 3 chime horn on the GP30 I painted many years ago. I also renumbered and weathered a covered hopper I inadvertently, and lazily, numbered the same as another hopper using the same prefab number on the dry transfer sheet.

Tim, those M420s look like they’ll be in service soon…

Took this pic on a scenery test strip I did a few years ago as well. I showed my wife the first pic and she said they looked too clean so these all got a dose of weathering before I took this version…

Lee:  The mismatched concrete looks fine.  Who says both bridges were built at the same time, or using the same aggregate mix?  Most highway departments, especially in the 30s and 40s, didn't particularly care what color the concrete was, as long as the bridge didn't fall down.

Nice diorama!  The trees are quite effective.

SP Wolf:  Enjoying your dynacar build; I have some coach projects in my future so following with interest.

I don't know why I need a PRR tower .. I'm not a SPF --- the location is just for the picture :)

That’s a beautiful model @John did you 3d model it? The print came out great as well.

If you go south where the PRR crosses over the WM Tidewater you could get away with it. If you go east of Walbrook could also get away with it there too. Or if you want to stay northwest could put it in Taneytown. Just a thought since its a beautiful model :)

Tim .. thanks .. It's available on Thingiverse .. the only thing I did was combine all the sections together into a couple of assemblies - printed right on the build plate with limited supports for some of the overhangs ..
