Oh wow.  This is welcome news, but tempered a bit by the fact that Aurora Miniatures announced the same car earlier this year.  In light of that, it would have been great if Atlas had chosen to make their single-door version instead.  Maybe they'll do both, like they did with the BX-166 and 177. 

In any event, I will do my best to support both manufacturers.

Well at least the Atlas cars will be more readily available, at Aurora dealer network is sparse.  At least with retailer discounts Atlas prices will be close on the street

I had one of the Aurora boxcars in hand at the Calgary Trainfest in April and they are really nice.  Hopefully we get the door variety you mention, but modern boxcars are raining from the sky!

They are making the single door version, it's in the catalog. Four numbers in BNSF.

There are multiple companies that have the Single door, but it appears that these are "foobs". Looking at railcar photos it appears the number series that Atlas choose are actually Greenbrier built vs Gunderson (as stated).

To my understanding, while they are the same cars for the most part, there are a few small differences from manufacture to manufacture. For instance, these would probably be close enough for those new colorful TILX ones, the Yellow/black scheme, white and white/red scheme, which are all trinity built.

Greenbrier owns the Gunderson plants/designs. They have since folded all manufacturing under the Greenbrier name now. It's a but confusing when tracking railcar builds but this car is the prototype to the Atlas model. BNSF has at least two series of this car, with the logo placement being the main spotting feature. The other change I noticed is the step under the door is slightly bigger. The cars being released are in the 2012 built series built by a Gunderson shop, but at the time under the "Greenbrier" umbrella.

It would be nice to see the Trinity car next as they seem to have a variety of paint schemes, particularly on their single door car. Many of those single doors fall into Trinity's "Eco-Box" and are insulated. The modern day beer car.

Trinity has a few end variations, as well as side variations.

The big names in 60' cars have been Greenbrier, Trinity Rail, and Freight Car America as of late. National Steel Car has not produced any boxcars in recent years, with most of their manufacturing efforts on covered hoppers, flatcars, and gondolas.

Hoping MT keeps putting out weathered TBOXs, they are amazing and these cars are favored canvases in the wild.
