Just read the Atlas email with these Gunderson 7550 cu. ft. Box Cars:

If you have an account on railcarphotos.com, most of these TBOX have the prototype photos there:

Oh wow.  This is welcome news, but tempered a bit by the fact that Aurora Miniatures announced the same car earlier this year.  In light of that, it would have been great if Atlas had chosen to make their single-door version instead.  Maybe they'll do both, like they did with the BX-166 and 177.  :)

In any event, I will do my best to support both manufacturers.

Completely unrelated to the product, but "Your Mom" in the link made me laugh for some reason

Well at least the Atlas cars will be more readily available, at Aurora dealer network is sparse.  At least with retailer discounts Atlas prices will be close on the street

I had one of the Aurora boxcars in hand at the Calgary Trainfest in April and they are really nice.  Hopefully we get the door variety you mention, but modern boxcars are raining from the sky!

This are most welcome specially the GATX LRS cars.
The pre-production photo in the new catalog look good.

They are making the single door version, it's in the catalog. Four numbers in BNSF.

Did only BNSF have the single door version?
https://shop.atlasrr.com/c-1729-n245.aspx?utm_source=Your+Mom&utm_medium=trw

There are multiple companies that have the Single door, but it appears that these are "foobs". Looking at railcar photos it appears the number series that Atlas choose are actually Greenbrier built vs Gunderson (as stated).
** edit forgot that Greenbrier/Gunderson are the same   **

To my understanding, while they are the same cars for the most part, there are a few small differences from manufacture to manufacture. For instance, these would probably be close enough for those new colorful TILX ones, the Yellow/black scheme, white and white/red scheme, which are all trinity built.

Don't know what to laugh at harder. The "Your+Mom" in the url, or the $53 dollar price tag...  :scared:

Greenbrier owns the Gunderson plants/designs. They have since folded all manufacturing under the Greenbrier name now. It's a but confusing when tracking railcar builds but this car is the prototype to the Atlas model. BNSF has at least two series of this car, with the logo placement being the main spotting feature. The other change I noticed is the step under the door is slightly bigger. The cars being released are in the 2012 built series built by a Gunderson shop, but at the time under the "Greenbrier" umbrella.

BNSF 761588 built 2012 - https://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=145636

BNSF 763147 built 2019 - https://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=111558

It would be nice to see the Trinity car next as they seem to have a variety of paint schemes, particularly on their single door car. Many of those single doors fall into Trinity's "Eco-Box" and are insulated. The modern day beer car.

Trinity has a few end variations, as well as side variations.

UP 700XXX series - https://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=137985
No horizontal reinforcements, 6 end 'ribs'.

TILX 69xx series - https://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=139059
No horizontal reinforcements, 5 end 'ribs'.

LRS 13xxxx series - https://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=131668
Horizontal reinforcements, 5 end 'ribs'.

The big names in 60' cars have been Greenbrier, Trinity Rail, and Freight Car America as of late. National Steel Car has not produced any boxcars in recent years, with most of their manufacturing efforts on covered hoppers, flatcars, and gondolas.

Wow again.  Great to see that they're doing the single-door car too.  (I didn't get the Atlas email until several hours after my post above.)  I think they could also offer this car in AOK with a straight face.

For instance, these would probably be close enough for those new colorful TILX ones, the Yellow/black scheme, white and white/red scheme, which are all trinity built.

Whoa.  I have never seen one of those TILX cars in the wild.  I'll have to keep an eye out.

@GaryHinshaw wasn't this boxcar on your wishlist?  Really happy to see these being offered.

Hoping MT keeps putting out weathered TBOXs, they are amazing and these cars are favored canvases in the wild.
