The August 2024 BLI Broadway Flyer

I got an email with the August 2024 Broadway Flyer.  Not a lot of N-Scale mentioned that hasn't already been talked about.  They did post a CAD image of the GP-30 which is coming.  One thing new was CAD images of the PRR Z74D heavyweight business car.  They are doing it in HO (I don't think it's arrived yet) and they will be doing it in N Scale also.  No arrival date for either of these yet.  No mention of the PRR Sharks either.  Probably further down the line after the GP30's.

Broadway Flyer: http://editor.ne16.com/vo/?FileID=30c27db4-ce1b-46bd-8edd-0199c449b202&m=070a8b78-d806-4602-b30d-6764875aad0e

They updated the production schedule, but as far as I can see, nothing surprising there.  The ATSF Northerns are loosely schedule for "Fall 2025" so still over a year away.  The UP Challenger's previously announced are "Spring 2025", when originally announced they were July 2024 but apparently got kicked back in the schedule by all the other stuff coming out.  There is a steady stream of N Scale - mostly diseasls diesels.  Most of them second or third runs.  They say the upcoming E7/E8 are new but I have some done years ago.  Maybe they don't count their PCM years.  The next run of PRR M1a/b are due in October.  Nice, but I bought all I need (more than I need, actually) in the first run.

I would buy N scale one.  I guess an oddball like me likes oddball models.  Or should  I say a unique individual likes unique models?  :D

Little disappointed they didn't have an update on PRR steam in N scale.

Since they've done the Z74 as an HO offering with the P70s and a PB 70 combine, I'm hoping we get a PB70 in N scale along with the business car...  I'd probably get at least 2 or 3 combines if they did.  This is progress in the right direction for PRR equipment in N, so I'll take it.

Based on their production schedule with things out as far as Fall 2025 and the list of steam they talked about with the PRR locos last on the list, I'd say it will be 2027 before any new PRR steam shows up.  No need for them to talk about it yet.  I hope I'm wrong, but that's what it looks like.   I'm sure they think the T1 and M1 satisfy the PRR needs for now, but, as I mentioned before - I bought more than enough M1's on the first run and I have picked up 4 T1's which is about 3 (probably 4) more than I could ever use on a Buffalo line layout.

Those utter lilly livered plank walking wombats are making a 2-10-10-2 in HO  :D , I'm hoping it will be too specialized for N scale. I have 2 disassembled Bachmann 2-10-2's and am fine tuning a jig for the wheelbase engines and in a while there will be a shell. I was thinking of getting an EMD GP30 from Scale Trains next run but we shall see what the BLI versions look like

I'm with Mike on this one, I had been trying to get info out of BLI over the last maybe 10 years. When I broached the subject of Santa Fe #3751 and #2900 classes they said they were looking at it but if they made them they'd be after the I1, J1 and H something - all PRR. As you might have guessed I'm not a PRR modeller but the PRR versions would make great kitbashing material so I'm extremely interested in these coming out eventually - Hurry up BLI!!!!  :D :D

Scratchbuilding a 2-10-10-2 sounds like a full time job, Al.  Looking forward to watching your progress.

In terms of mass production, I also hope that BLI foregoes doing the 2-10-10-2 in N scale.
Like the real life AT&SF, if BLI wants to make a new loco, I would MUCH rather have two 2-10-2's than one 2-10-10-2.   The prototypes did not last long in the 2-10-10-2 configuration before Santa Fe cut them in half and added some spare parts to make Santa Fe-s.
There is a reason why they call a 2-10-2 a "Santa Fe".  Hopefully, when BLI does more ATSF steam, they will opt for giving us the 2-10-2, saving us the trouble of having to take a torch to one of those monsters.

I'm chuckling to myself about all the recent overlap in diesel offerings, GP30's being the latest.

Anyone remember the consternation when Life Like and Kato both announced PA's in N scale?  How could the market support such overlap?

Maybe there's a growing hobby market?  That would be a good sign.  Smaller run minimums might be another answer, Kato used to have really high production quantites.

I'm actually only scratch building the mechanism, I did start scratchbuilding the shell 10 years ago but stopped when I couldn't shape the sand domes properly. The shell I'll be using .......  :D :D

Wouldn’t mind seeing an S1 or S2 making it to N scale. I have started building mine so it’s prime time for someone to make it by the time I finish my builds

I get wanting an S1 or S2 because they are iconic PRR locomotives.  But any given (normal?) person is only going to buy 1.  If BLI makes an I1 then The possibility of multiple sales come up.  I mean, just think, when @Dave V build his T-Trak version of The Curve, he's going to need at least 4 because how else can you do a coal drag going up the The Curve with a double header on the front and a double set of snappers on the rear?  That's just pure Pennsy porn right there.
