So has anyone heard of defective locomotives being shipped by Atlas?  Getting that story from someone I pre-ordered from but it is the first I am hearing about it?

I have had a VO-1000 and a an MP15 with burned decoders out of the box. But those were old models when I bought them NIB so I partially blamed the possibility of people tinkering with them on display.

Only one I can recall I ever had was a C40-8 that the motor tabs didn't make contact with the board, took less than 5 minutes to fix it

What color should the roof be? I've seen pics of both blue and black on the roof of the 1776.

I hope they didn't botch the other roads, but I pre-ordered. I cancelled my pre-order after I saw the samples last month.

For N&W: wrong trucks, wrong horn, wrong bell. All this also true for the bicentennial unit 1776 - but they managed to get the roof color wrong too.

I just didn't need a $280 project loco.

Here it looks blue over the short HH and possibly black on the long hood.

Difficult angle - I have better angles ... somewhere  :D

In any case, the official N&W diagram says all black ("Shows top of cab and short hood to be black."):

It appears to be blue just darker from grime and such looking at the photo of it here.

Does anybody know if they got the amount of dirt on top of the truck side frames correct to represent the prototype being on the tracks after one day?

These are starting to show up at dealers. Just ordered an SP unit from Lombards. Pic indicates the SP units do indeed have SP style lighting. The pics also indicate the DRGW units also have nose lights, but they appear to be in a different style and position than what was typical for DRGW units.

I wish Atlas would actually post decent multi-view photos on their web site like Scale Trains does. They have become a bit better at indicating which units have ditch lights but their typical photo makes it hard to tell in general. And, in general, Atlas could do a lot better job at product descriptions/details/features.

Quite frankly I am really surprised that the SP units have SP lighting fixtures since Atlas has never (to my knowledge) done that before. It was always slap SP paint on a generic model.

Agin that's not a very good angle. The best online photo I have found in my short search so far is this one:

Also, not the best angle.

I might have to break down and order a copy of this photo:  :D

Frankly, I don't see any reason to doubt the official N&W paint diagram.

Cheers,

Mark

Thought I would share a few pics of the DRGW and SP units
Nice to see Atlas add some details such as the cab shades and Windshield wipers, hand grabs. truck details a plus
not sure about the open speaker in the fuel tank, I like the sound from it being closed better, these are silver I have not heard the sound from these so I will hope for the best.
I think Atlas did not do the best job on the plows (nice that they have raised grabs) they are just not the best looking plows out there.
On DC they have cab lights on in both directions, on the SP the nose light lights (the Red does not, maybe with DCC and Sound they have better built in light options)
Have not gotten the shell off yet, I will try later.

Glad to see someone got theirs to hold still for a photo of the actual models. Didn't realize these were coming with a step up in details from Atlas. I wonder if the individual grabs and such will be standard on all new models forthwith?
