Have not been keeping up with product announcements and am wondering if anyone has heard of any upcoming N scale Baldwin road diesels from any of the major brands?

Nope. Lots of us transition era modelers here are waiting with bated breath for an AS16 or 616.

RIP Shapeways.  :|

In a strange bit of irony, an export Baldwin has been done in N: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=56919.0

According to a recent thread on the Railwire, Bowser is considering moving into the N Scale loco arena - maybe they will bring some in from HO!

If you want AS16's then CMR Products have you covered! They also have a lot of other shells that are really good looking like EMD GP7u, GP9u, GP10 and Conrail slugs.

@kiwi_al  -  I may be missing something, but all I see in their listings are various rebuild variations of AS16s, I can't find an "as built" version.  I take it you've used some of their products of recent manufacture.  Can you give info on what chassis fit, and what handrails, etc. you used?  Their website is "frugal", at best, with sharing information.  And, as with so many 3D printers, devoid of photos of the product, only letting us see drawings.

One take away from the Scale Trains Road Show presentation I found enlightening was their breakdown of sales by era. Granted most of their models have been on the modern end in N scale, but they said transition era models are the lowest volume sales they have in HO scale, when time was it was  the most popular era for modeling a few years back. Evidently the new folks in the hobby according to Shane like to model what they saw growing up 80s-90s-oughts - or what they can see now.

At least that's how one manufacturer sees the distribution of sales by eras in our hobby.

I'm not surprised to hear this, fits me to a tee... late 80's here. You tend to recall your childhood and formative years as the good old days, so modeling that time seems natural for most.

Yeah they don't do an as built, I have bought only 3 CF-7 shells and they look good. I haven't yet done the handrails, I plan to use GMM stanchions with thin brass wire either glued or soldered to the stanchions. I also plan on buying more from them, I like the cost of the shells and they seem to be printed well

I have one of the AS-616 shells from SW (and the truck side frames as well). I also had the directions as to what Atlas mech used to convert to the Baldwin and a bunch of other info...on my portable 2tb hard drive that had all of my RR info on it and DIED about a month ago. At least I still have the shell...I'll have to see if I can dig it out.

The last time I contacted Bowser they had no interest in doing the AS-16 in N scale. I was somewhat surprised since their HO scale version has been popular enough to warrant re-runs. But then again, they got the HO version from the Steward tooling.

Atlas would make the most sense since they have many models with the correct trucks. I bug them every year and get the standard answer that they will pass on (to the trash can) my suggestion.

When I talked with the, then independent Fox Vally Models, they said they had several requests for the AS-16.

The Shapeways shells would not fit on the suggested Atlas RS3/RS11 frames without shaving metal weights and then you would have to convert them to DCC.

Given the popularity of the HO version I can't understand why Atlas wouldn't try a run since they have appropriate trucks and frames and would probably just need to slim the metal frame.

We need a writing campaign to move them off zero.

I need a pair of DRS-6-6-1500's, the shapeways models were too off, and I so wish that I would have ordered the Transfer shell

Contact James through his website. He did say that he was looking at alternatives to providing his 3D printed shells and repair parts with the demise of Shapeways.

He is currently moving at the moment so response may be a bit sluggish.

I had all the research done before I left. Just couldn't get the powers that be to bite. Might need to make a call and have them dig out my old files...  8)
