Front bogies on BWLTd N scale loco

The front bogies on my new T1 4-4-4-4 from Broadway Ltd. keep bouncing off the rails, especially when going through switches.
Is there  fix for this?

Are the wheels in gauge? My first thing to do would be to check them with an NMRA gauge. I bet they’re undersized, it’s common on a lot of locomotives.

Did you get the stealth version? The stealth version does not have the smoke unit, which is fairly large and made of brass. In fact there is a complete void inside the boiler shell where it would normally go. I stuffed mine with tungsten putty and it solved this problem. Very simple to fix! The shell is held in place by three screws. The only tricky bit is making sure you get the handrails threaded back in their holes when you reinstall the boiler.

I think there may have been a little confusion over the model. You have a Pennsylvania T1 4-4-4-4, not the Reading T1 4-8-4. The latter does have a smoke unit which provides most of the weight up front. Without it the front of the locomotive is rather light and has been causing some people some problems. But that's not what's going on here.

Long ago, I read of an N scaler who had issues with a steam loco model where the pilot truck would derail with annoying frequency.  I do not recall any helpful specifics, but wrapping several turns of solder wire around the axle(axles?) of the pilot truck imparted enough weight to lessen or eliminate the tendency to derail.

you will have to install a pilot truck  spring off of a kato 844. add the spring to the factory springand add a microtrains bolster pin washer under the metal washer. this all helps add pressure to the truck...

I had the exact same problem with my T1 and, unfortunately, I'm not really sure how I fixed it. All I did was remove the two screws that hold the pilot truck in place and then put them back. And, for whatever reason, this magically solved all of the derailing problems. Maybe one of the screws was too loose or too tight? I have no idea

Thanks Mark. I'll try that first. I don't want to wrap solder around the pilot or insert springs and washers.
Hope it's just a simple fix. These locos are expensive enough here in Canada.
