East Broad Top RR, a 3-foot gauge RR, has a short 2-foot gauge RR in their shop complex that was used to move wheel sets and car parts between buildings.

Z scale (6mm) scales to roughly 3-foot at 1:160, so T scale would be a better fit for 2-foot.

Okay, back to N scale.  This was a fun project  based on a photograph that turned up on another forum.  Some research determined that the photo was from 1937 and shows a Coast Guard contracted train loaded with 38' picket boats and motor launches.  The train is headed on a rescue mission to the Ohio Valley January 1937 flood that was the largest recorded flood up to that time.  The PRR GR gondolas are (sadly) from Shapeways (I wish I ordered a dozen more!).  The 38' picket boat was more of a challenge.  I found a plan view and side elevation for the boat and from that was able to make drawings to create parts for the boat on a laser cutter.  Parts were made from 1/16" basswood plywood and card stock paper.  It all came together surprising well.

More progress on the Grand Trunk Southern.  Wednesday night I was scheduled to go railfanning with my grandsons, however, the remnants of Hurricane Beryl moved over southern Ontario and brought heavy rains.  Railfanning was out, so the boys came over and we tackled a couple of projects on the layout.  16 year old Nate is a good model builder so he tackled the roof framing for the main building of the P&G plant.   You can see him in Picture 1.  Ethan wanted to do some landscaping so he tackled the plywood still showing in the plant area.  Picture 2 shows him taping the track.  Picture 3 shows the results after about 3 hours of work with the building back in place and scenery added to the area.  I think the boys did a good job.  While the boys did that I kept working on putting in another road and that can be seen in Picture 4 which shows the grout for the road freshly installed.

Like the progress on that P&G Plant.

My first weathering attempt, going for an old worn look for the repatched/sold off cars.

Carved out a little spot for Emory Grove tower. It was still standing during the early years of the modeling timeframe, long gone now.  Thanks to @John for doing the hard work !

That little narrow gauge train those guys are riding in Proviso Yard looks like so much fun. And they get paid for it too? Hell I'd be paying the railroad just to ride around on the tiny train.

An "N scale, Z gauge" critter would be very handy for modelers who don't want a big Nn3 layout.  A few feet of track disappearing into an industrial area, with a "gauge break" transfer facility, could be a nice scenic feature, and include some operations.  Nice for when one doesn't want to run the big railroad.

A leased Conrail track maintenance train takes a break on a siding on the Passaic River & Western.

Scenery has been coming along slowly but surely. Also picked up a Bambu Labs A1 Mini to mess around with. Didn’t exactly buy it for the layout, more or less to mess around with my boys, but not saying I might try it out for a few things including signs. This was my first attempt with the 0.2mm nozzle. Lots of learning left to do…

1:1 scale CTC machine to interface with 1:160 Modutrak.

Machine was originally constructed in 1937 and housed at Tower A-68. Later moved to Sturtevant and modified.

We modeled this stretch on the layout, so of course we needed the machine to run it. At least that’s what I told my wife.

Nice CTC machine.  When did this go out of service?  Looks like it stops a little south of the PPG Oak Creek plant which had a spur with 3 tracks, two of which went into the warehouse.  They received raw materials in boxcars and possibly tank cars and shipped product out in tank cars.  The PPG plant opened in 1974 and replaced the original Patton's Paints plant just south of downtown Milwaukee.

Scenery progress on the WM Narrows modules.

The highway bridge gets pilings and abutments.

Wills Creek gets rocks...

And a long stored SD35 gets to see the light of day.
