Two things this week that I didn’t see coming. Monday I survived a heart attack and got a stint. Friday HH GP 30’s announced. Now to see which one of these events will cost me more $$$$$ lol

No Indiana Northeastern… Do I wait, or just grab some now to have painted up to run with my NKP765?

I need to verify the UP models are consistent with what was running on the CBQ due to pool power. Would love to have an AB set running with a future Q release.

Add some Trainworx gondolas and you can have a Monarch Branch train!

I'm skeptical that the 30Bs made it off home rails. I'd be looking for photographic evidence, and the problem there is UP was not the most railfanned road in the era, as most of their operating areas were pretty isolated. Also, check Special Instructions at the time for connecting RRs that might have had pooling agreements, which weren't that common at the time. The Instructions may have outlined rules that certain road number ranges from foreign lines were deemed "no exchange" or "not allowed" except for transport to/from manufacturers.

The problem as I see it is that RRs in that era were fairly parochial and tended to do things "their way". Cabless hood units would lead to head-scratching and a lot of door-slamming looking for the hostler stand.

One example I know for certain was that CNW prohibited UP's double power over their Council Bluffs to Chicago connection, alleging "weight restrictions". Axle loading was little different than conventional single units, but somebody in engineering got their panties in a wad over a DD35 "trespassing", and declared them and their brethren to be persona non grata.

Sploosh!

Good call!

Second picture...when we used to ski at Monarch we'd pass that Texaco sign on US50. It's in disrepair, but still there. These days we ski at the Epic resorts (Breck, Vail, etc.) because the annual military pass is so insanely cheap.

I posted two examples to this very thread  :D
And honestly didn't look too hard.

They definitely wandered... Now if we want to get real fun let's talk about the U50 that was in Minneapolis in the early 70s  :D

Wasn't the CNW restriction due to a bridge?

The samples are here at the show and look extremely good. No CR either in this run. But when it appears, it will be the ex-PRR units with remnants of the removed antenna stanchions. Very cool.

I think you can find a few on the Rocky-SOO transfer.  I think there's one with a RI SW1500 leading.

I'm really surprised about the B units, nobody ever does those.

-Mark
2 B units, a passenger version with steam generator and a freight version.  Ooo laa laa.

IIRC as related to me by retired UP guys that was the cover story. DD35 didn't have a net distributed weight much different than two GP35s, but somebody was looking for an excuse. Probably because a hostler put the DD35 on the point as a joke, maybe?
