Was waiting until I mounted one on a layout. But at Amherst I was also shown a new player on the market by The Rodney himself. Details+ which comes in a pre lit and unlit variation. The lit ones are a little, Chubby though. And more detail appropriate for current ones.

I emailed them in October 2022 asking if they would consider making these. Their response was that they didn't have any immediate plans, but wanted to do it at some point. Looks like we've reached that point!

I'm not conversant in crossing gate technology. What does "modern" mean  here ("Modern North American style"), in terms of year of introduction? (The "modern" era seems to vary according to who you talk to)

In the copy of the Boston & Maine Railroad Book of Standard Plans that I have there is a drawing that looks very similar to the Showcase model. It is dated 1938, amended 1945. The only real difference I see is that it calls for the stripes on the blade to be yellow and black, rather than red and silver. There were all manners of weird and wonderful attempts at automatic crossing protection before WW2, but I think these would be appropriate for anything installed after that. I don't know how quickly other forms of crossing protection were replaced with these.

One thing that might differentiate eras is the presence of a mechanical bell or the ultra modern e-bell that just looks like a pipe with some holes in it.

The 'wishbone' style would be a less modern crossing gate.

Stripe color is now standardized.   The big difference in appearance is going between the 9" incandescent lights vs. 12" LED's standard now.

I'm confused here... "no visible bells". Are we talking about the SM model? It's got a classic bell at the top, it's just in profile.
