New Atlas GP40

I have searched the Atlas product listing for the new GP40s that just arrived but no info about what type of decoder they will take -- Next 18, a replacement board, or that new E24 ESU.

Anyone know?

Thanks!

And what about the ditch lights , do they work ? Are they wired to the decoder?

Ouch, please tell me that the MKT photos aren't what we're getting.  :-X  :scared:

I haven't gotten my notice yet for the two I have on order, so I imagine they're trickling in now.

Are these supposed to have ditch lights? All the schemes shown for the GP40 on the Atlas website look like pre-ditch light era schemes.

I know the Atlas GP60 is supposed to have ditch lights, but who knows when that's going to be released...

The following have ditch lights: CP Rail, CSX, CSX MOW (Orange), Port Harbor, and Operation Lifesaver 50th Anniversayr.

The remainder do not have ditch lights: DRGW, MEC, MKT, ATSF, PC, and UP.

Got my MKT's today.  I can report that they look pretty good, nothing like the photo.  They look pretty much like Atlas' previous runs.  Not the best ever, but serviceable.   The yellow is too orange and the green is not right, but if you squint they look pretty close to what heavily weathered units looked like toward the end.

Supposedly someone is doing a run of stripes so I'll investigate that, but they'll work either way.

I'm getting really tired of seeing manufactures put ditch lights on some models, then not do it on ATSF... like damn it the ATSF went into the ditchlight era as well.

I will forgive this one, as 2964 was wrecked in '88
Whats even worse is I saw a photo of the GP40 with a AC unit, so partially Post '85 rebuild...

It however is not on right. Oh well... hopefully if/when I decide to pick it up, Ill pry it off and put it on correctly.
I suppose... Thanks Atlas for trying.

I won't even get started on the GP40X..

Hi Doug, are you able to check if same decoder as earlier gp38/40 dcc/sound ready chassis (with slide in decoder), or if new chassis design with different decoder type.

Here's a picture I just took of my new release GP40 with ditch lights.  It's still a slide in decoder, but it has three aux LED's on the underside of each end like one of the replacement ones I have somewhere instead of the single like was in my factory equipped GP39-2's.  The ditch lights are operable from light fibers leading to the two outside AUX lights.

Orders were due May 2020. We will supposed to have gotten it in 2021.

More serious, they're currently showing as having an estimated ship date of 2Q 2024.

Everything that was not delivered in 2023 Q4 was pushed to 2024 Q1, not delivered Q1 pushed to Q2.  Kicking can down the road right now.  Might get it, or it will later be posted as Q3
