Was just watching the Webcam at the Amtrak station in Flagstaff AZ, where my daughter lives. I caught a crew change during the snowstorm they are having right now.

I was in Dallas taking a sprinkler design course last week, and since I can't stand flying (more correctly, anything to do with airports) I was able to cross Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas off the list of States I've never been to. With that, I was able to check out a few RR's on the way, but only shortlines and regionals... I'm won't foam big roads anymore, too... just don't have any variety left motive power wise and I get no enjoyment out of that. Of course, small roads are hit and miss and I missed more than hit.

Stillwater Central at their yard in Oklahoma City. Set on the right was idling, set on the left was backing onto their train which they proceeded to reverse out of the yard and I did not follow. I think it was a transfer to the UP across the river.

One of a few interesting cars in Stilwater Central's yard... MoPac had a nice aesthetic.

Texas, Oklahoma, and Eastern working the papermill yard in Valliant. Leader is a Patriot Rail De Queen and Eastern unit while the trailing unit is an original TO&E unit, number D-14.

Found two Kiamichi RR trains, one at Hugo, OK., and one at Valliant, but no crews and they were parked where photography wasn't conducive to a nice picture. Was nice to see both roads still handling woodchips.

One of the things I love about railfaning is finding older equipment still being used.

The Delmarva Central RR has bought about 70 ex-CSX 4750s. They're in what we're calling shuttle service between all of the Perdue mills here on Maryland's Eastern Shore and Delaware. Corn and soybeans originate and terminate here. They'll probably still be in service after their 50 years because we're not sending them north and my railroad, the MDDE, is making money off of them too.

There weren’t a lot of great things about my first job out of college, but one of the best was RJ Corman having their loco spur and inspection pit behind our building. Their wreck clean-up contracting outfit was based in the building across the street on the other side too, and while we didn’t get rail service you could see a lot of the other ones, in particular the IP plant across the street that had a corrugator (we were just a sheet plant, meaning we bought corrugate sheet and cut it, whereas the IP plant got paper and starch and made corrugate). This old Geep was pretty much the main power; they tried bringing a GP16 down once but it sat for about a month, only ran once, and then got transferred away. This was one of the mornings I had to be the one opening the plant early one summer day and decided to go do a round checking the exterior of the building to get a chance to take advantage of the early summer sun in Olive Branch, MS.
