Weekend Update 2/4/24

Very excited to finally, finally get started on my “Bridges over the Niagara River” project, thanks to the wonderful TTrak module by CMR products and significant assembly help by Andrew Hegstad.


Will hopefully have some more progress on it in the next two weeks.

That looks higher/thicker than the standard T-Trak module unless the camera is distorting it.  How do you attach it to other modules on a flat table?

Fox, out of South Whitley, Indiana. Incredible horn. Very free-playing, intonation is so good in the upper registers I can play most oboe parts without sweating it. Great dynamic range, and surprising projection. I was thinking it made my old cor (an older Laubin) look really bad, but, no, this new one is just that much better.

Interesting thing to know it is maple and not grenadilla, like my oboe, or most other English horns. Fox is known for their professional bassoons, and it's pretty clear they parlayed the best of their bassoon experience into this instrument.

You don't, NJ Southern's layout had a similar module last weekend. With these guys the idea is that you scoot the tables apart and the module hangs between them.

Serious musicians + trains as a hobby goes way back. My favorite current example (one of many) is the tubist for the Chicago Symphony. Gene Pokorny even features his membership in the UP Historical Society in his symphony bio.

Mind is blank at the moment on remembering a name, but there was a notable theater organist who was also a big MRRer.

I ran into my college music director at a train show. It's a thing.

Yes, serious thread drift this weekend but there is a long running connection (almost 70 years) between the piece I am currently preparing (Grand Canyon Suite) and railroading, as it has served as the soundtrack for the Disneyland Railroad's journey through the Grand Canyon.

Serious musicians + trains as a hobby goes way back.

WAY back - Antonin Dvorak (arrested for trespassing on railway property), Arthur Honegger (composed Pacific 231), Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart, the list goes on.

Good question. It is a gorge module and the clamps are hiding where the standard TTrak connections line up. It is 14” deep. I am setting my scene up so that the bridge is at the back of the module, not the front and do not plan to do traditional TTrak, per se.
