Field verification of my favorite modeled location.

I added the steel braces because sometimes I run my PRR stuff, and their engineering just wasn't as good as Mr. Willard's road.

And a new (old) arrival has come onto the property.

Working on a side project for someone.  Turning a N&W Y6b into a Reading N-1 for his freelance railroad, the Reading and Lehigh.

I was asked to sub in the  Chattanooga Symphony this week. The principal trombone is a friend of mine and offered to host me for the week. I knew he was an N scaler, but had no idea the extent! Really nice roundly-round layout and a collection that resembles an anthology of the last 20 years of N scale! Guy had at least 2 of every locomotive produced, certainly in the last 10 years. It was a little distracting trying to get some work done with trains running, but I have a whole new appreciation for the nostalgic approach.

He runs DC, so I had to find a project that I hadn’t yet converted to DCC. Polished the rails the only way I knew how! Pretty random place to find such a WM flavored scene!

Can you ask your friend where he got these cabinets from?

He said they are jewelry boxes he got off eBay. Said he searches for “10 drawer jewelry boxes”

Been working on two projects, one miniature related and the other train related.

The first will be a Valentines gift for my wife. I picked up this mini Diorama kit called the “Book Nook”. It was a laser cut pre-printed pressboard material. And of course I HAD to customize it. Somewhere along the line the paper book covers and rugs were lost, so I had to on Etsy to find replacements, scale and print them. Many of my wife’s favorite book covers were in the sets I bought. Some were fold up and others were wraps over laser cut blanks.

The kit is designed to be about two modest sized leather bound books wide and tall.

The customization of the lights inside are battery operated Christmas lights in various places. They use a special three position switch that in one position is six hours on, eighteen off, starting at the time the switch was thrown. The battery pack is mounted to the outside back wall for easy access.

The upstairs bookshelf in back right got an 0201 LED, and I made the door operable.  The books in the book stand are loose and some are folding with pages.

The floor lamp is custom made from brass tube and a formed disc of thin brass for the shade, with an LED inside

The big surprise for her is the magnet-mounted Barbie in her “Enchanted Evening” gown which was a 3” tall Keychain I found on eBay. My wife loves anything Barbie.

All in all, it was a fun kit to build, and I hope she likes it!

After I finished this kit I also finished my Keystone Details PRR H21d cement hopper kit. Made from a Bowser H21a, the kit makes a model of the sole H21d cement hopper, which purportedly is the predecessor to the successful H30 class.

Both very nice John!  The Book Nook is very special. I love miniatures.

Ready to lay track this year so the layout has been pulled away from the wall for access to both staging and visible sections.   Fascia has been primed and sanded and is ready for a light green finish

Good progress Andy; now I can answer the North End Roadmaster's query about where his advance sign for BEATTON disappeared to . . . . . .  8)

I made significant progress on my CN C-424 this week.  Underside of deck/sill assembly showing addition of styrene strips to represent battery boxes and frame channels:

Side view of same, also showing styrene plates for ACI labels attached to side sills:

Rear view showing addition of footboard, coupler, hoses, cut lever, MU stand, and battery hatches scribed into deck:

Front view showing addition of plow, coupler, hoses, cut lever, MU stand, and slots in deck filled after removal of battery boxes:

Everything below the deck is now complete; carbody and cab details are next.

All railroad modeling activities are on the backburner for a while due to a recent acquisition
